KHALAB & THE M’BERRA ENSEMBLE
“Raffaele Costantino — known by his stage name, Khalab — is an Italian artist and producer who uses his music to inspire and work with the M’berra Refugee Camp.
When Khalab made his original visit to Mauritania, Africa in 2017, he changed the residents’ lives forever. Not only did he provide them with the opportunity to create music, but also provided aid and safety through INTERSOS with humanitarian projects in West Africa.
As a fearless leader, he came together with the refugees and helped to foster an atmosphere of creativity, which ultimately led to the formation of their band group, the M’berra Ensemble.”

GO TO: PRINCESS MONONOKE (1997) DIR. HAYAO MIYAZAKI
“There’s something about summertime that makes me want to watch Studio Ghibli movies, and this year is no exception. While we haven’t officially reached the first day of summer, the recent sweltering temperatures make me want to curl up on the couch with a good movie and the air conditioning on blast. In lieu of air conditioning, I’ll gladly settle for the movie.
If you read my recent write up on Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, it’s worth noting that Princess Mononoke is its clear spiritual successor. The conflict between humans and nature is an ongoing concern for Miyazaki, but in this film, characters’ motivations are more complex.”

REVIEW: ON THE COUNT OF THREE (2021) DIR. JERROD CARMICHAEL
“With all due respect to The Office, I would posit that the ultimate comfort-watch of the streaming age is Bob’s Burgers. Created in 2011 by Loren Bouchard (an alumnus of Watertown’s late, lamented Soup2Nuts animation studio), the primetime cartoon has quietly grown into something of a phenomenon, boasting one of the best voice casts on television and a run of consistently good-to-great seasons which has now, by just about anyone’s metric, lasted longer than that of The Simpsons. Currently wrapping its twelfth season (and already renewed for number 13), a feature film was, if not inevitable, then at least a natural extension of the show’s near-universal goodwill. The Bob’s Burgers Movie may not be revelatory, but it is as fleet-footed and good-hearted as the show from which it spawned.”
